Kitchen in SW Portland
This is a kitchen centered around NW design – natural wood cabinets, marble tile counters, then local Ann Sacks glass tile and the original fir subflooring found under vinyl was refinished. The homeowners wanted to change the access to the kitchen to create a “Barista” area with it’s own sink next to the pantry.
They kept the dishwasher — a prototype KitchenAid, most likely from the early 1950’s — which just recently died. Another remnant from the original kitchen — a window header — was kept unfinished as an accent above the new bumpout window seat, looking out at the mature rhododendrons. The window seat adds more seating near the eating counter.
